Academic Training
Bachelor of Engineering in Renewable Energy
The Bachelor of Engineering in Renewable Energy (LIER) is a multidisciplinary degree that arises as a response to the great energy challenges and global environmental problems, which demand professionals who meet the needs of the energy sector and sustainable development, with social responsibility. This degree is carried out in collaboration with the UNAM Institute of Engineering (II-UNAM). It lasts 4 years and its curriculum is executed every semester. Specialists in the areas of photothermal systems, photovoltaic systems, materials design, refrigeration systems and heat pumps, geothermal energy, wind energy, biofuels, fuel cells, energy in buildings, energy planning, energy sustainability and environmental impact participate. In addition to this infrastructure of human resources, II-UNAM also has a solid academic staff with experience and recognition in the areas of photothermal systems, hydraulics, ocean energy, energy in buildings and biofuels.

Postgraduate in Engineering
The IER is home to the Postgraduate Program in Energy Knowledge Engineering (PIcE), whose mission is to train excellent researchers capable of generating new knowledge and conceiving technical strategies and methodologies that solve key and priority problems in the development of the country. This Postgraduate Program includes study plans for Master’s and Doctorate degrees recognized by the National Program of Quality Postgraduate Studies (PNPC) of CONACYT, with the Master’s Program being certified as a Consolidated National Program, while the Doctorate Program is certified as an International Competence Program, which is the highest level of accreditation. Today it offers academic training to 67 Master’s students and 97 Doctorate students.

The disciplinary fields in the Postgraduate Degree in Engineering (Energy) are: Bioclimatic Design, Renewable Sources and Energy Systems with the following subdisciplines:
- Bioclimatic Design
- Bioclimatic design of buildings
- Renewable Sources
- Geothermal energy
- Solar photothermal energy
- Solar photovoltaic energy
- Energy Systems
- Energy economics
- Energy and environment
- Processes and efficient use of energy
Master’s Degree in Engineering
The Master’s Degree in Engineering (Energy) (MIcE) is unique in the country and is oriented towards scientific and scientific-practical research that allows the training of high-level professionals. The mission of the master’s degree is to train quality researchers, capable of generating new knowledge and conceiving technical strategies and methodologies that solve key and priority problems in the development of the country. This program has a roster of 59 tutors distributed among the different university institutions participating in the postgraduate program, that is, the Engineering Institute (II UNAM), the Faculty of Engineering (FI UNAM) and the IER UNAM.
PhD in Engineering
The PhD in Engineering (Energy) (DI cE) aims to train independent researchers with the ability to propose and carry out original and cutting-edge research (theoretical and applied), disseminate the results of such research and apply the knowledge generated to the technological development of the country. This program has 61 tutors, 40 of whom belong to the IER UNAM and the rest to the FI UNAM and II UNAM. It is important to mention that within the postgraduate program, there is experience with double degree graduation systems with European Universities.
